ClusterScale Ltd. commissioned Loadbalancer.biz to evaluate the ClusterLoad Pegasys, their lower-end Layer 4-7 load balancing appliance designed to provide first-class performance at a relatively cost-effective level. Furthermore, ClusterScale requested that Loadbalancer.biz evaluate the Pegasys alongside the similarly marketed lower-end F5 solution, the BIG-IP 1500. With the F5 solution costing more than twice as much ClusterScale were hoping to demonstrate superior performance for a fraction of the price. In order to do so Loadbalancer.biz utilised the findings of The Tolly Group 2005 test results regarding a similar performance test of an F5 BIG-IP 1500.

Loadbalancer.biz engineers tested the Pegasys, measuring its layer 4 transactions per second and throughput (MBps). Results were then analysed and a cost per connection per second (CPS) and cost per MBps were collated.
